Note .: For some distributions of Linux OS connection may not be working! The procedure has been tested on Linux Mint distribution 17.3. For Ubuntu 16.04 LTS connection does not work (at the time of 06/2016).
To gain access to ethernet network at the dormitory you must take the following steps:
1. Setting the wifi password
2. Network settings:
- Click on the icon indicating the network connection and select Network Settings.
- Next, click Wired, bring it to online and continue through the Add Profile ...
- On the Security tab set the required properties according the picture:
- Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
- CA certificate: leave blank
- PEAP version: Automatic
- Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Username: ve tvaru loginNumber@vsb.cz (e.g. abc123@vsb.cz)
In the Identity tab, you can change the profile name to your preferred name.
- The list of wired networks, double click on the newly added network (here termed as Profile 1).
- The fact that the device is connected to a network, it is visible from the status Connected. Below are additional details such as IP address, etc.
- If you are connecting to a wired network outside the university (eg. At home) and there connection does not work, go to the original profile (probably called Wired connection 1), which is without 802.1x authentication.
