Wireless network - WIFI at VSB-TUO

VsB-TUO offers wireless (Wi-Fi) connectivity to its employees and students via the TUONET network. To connect, use one of the following Wi-Fi networks (SSID):

EDUROAM - preferred connection

By using automatic configuration, you can easily establish a network profile to connect your device to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network. Should the installer encounter any issues, refer to the manual configuration guides. Automatic configuration systems are designed as a collaborative platform for Eduroam participants and are not developed or maintained by VŠB-TUO. Installation programs alter security parameters on your device; therefore, always verify their origin. The eduroam.cz website provides a comprehensive list of operating systems compatible with eduroam CAT / geteduroam.

Warning

Your login name must follow the format login@vsb.cz, such as abc123@vsb.cz. This exact username format is mandatory. To access Wi-Fi Eduroam network services, VSB-TUO users must have a designated wifi password.

A) Automatic configuration (eduroam CAT/geteduroam app)

  1. Delete any pre-existing Eduroam Wi-Fi profiles from your system.
  2. Download the installer from the Eduroam CAT website.
  3. Select the organization VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava from the list.
  4. Enter your login in the format login@vsb.cz after starting the installer.
  5. Enter your Wi-Fi password.

B) Manual configuration

TUONET-SIMPLE

The network designed for terminal equipment, which do not support any authentication and encryption mechanisms, or. are technical problems with them.

TUONET-GUEST

The network is intended for users with created account with limited validity, so called "guest access". Individual visitors of VSB-TUO or users at various events such as conferences, etc. can join this network.

How to apply for service setup

Temporary access is requested by VSB-TUO employees through the IT Helpdesk or the faculty administrators can also be contacted. The established approaches are limited in time and intended only for the performance of activities related to work, research or teaching purposes.

The application shall specify:

  • guest identity (name, surname, email address)
  • from when and until when the guest account is to be set up
  • the purpose for which access is established

Service parameters
Users of this network are connected outside the VSB-TUO network, they only have access to the Internet. Access is set up only for users who do not have standard access to WiFi network VSB-TUO (eduroam, ...) for a maximum of 14 days. Once set up, your account is active within one minute.

Access instructions including login details are then sent to the guest's email address and eventually the access guarantee (VSB-TUO employee).

Authentication to the tuonet-guest network is done by automatically redirecting the web browser page to the authentication form (as with tuonet-simple).
